This Calgary lake community began development in 2007. The community is bordered by a future extension of 52nd St. S.E. to the west, along with the community of Auburn Bay, Marquis of Lorne Trail to the north, the proposed East Freeway to the east, and an eastern extension of Seton Boulevard (dubbed 196 Ave. S.E.) to the south.

Mahogany is being developed by Hopewell Residential Communities of Calgary.

According to page 22 of the city's Mahogany Community Plan, efforts are to be made to preserve an historic ranch located within the future community. A core commercial hub will abut 52 Street on the west side, and a future southeast line of the city's C-Train system is expected to run parallel 52nd Street, servicing Mahogany as well. The community will be constructed northeast of Seton, a commercial-residential-service hub that will include the city's new South Health Campus.

Mahogany Lake is a private, three-part lake that connects to all six of Mahogany’s residential neighbourhoods. At 84 acres of combined lake and beachfront (63 acres of lake), Mahogany Lake will be the largest freshwater lake in Calgary and will boast more beach area than any other lake community in Calgary. The lake itself is also uniquely designed, as it includes two distinct residential islands and is crossed in two places by bridges – both of which will provide exceptional views of the lake. This truly one-of-a-kind new neighbourhood will be home to a collection of restaurants, shops and services, public gathering spaces, distinctly urban residences, and will also be adjacent to the new South Calgary Hospital and future LRT Station.

Construction continues in this new community offering buyers a number of options. Residents can choose to build their own home with one of several community approved builders or to purchase a re-sale home. The diversity of options is evident from entry level single family homes, attached and condominium style housing developments to mid range family detached homes and also to the high end executive homes offering lots with lake front living. Carefully selected by Hopewell for their exceptional reputations, members of the Mahogany Builder Group are known for their architectural innovation and creative vision. Each builder boasts a proven customer service ethic in addition to an unwavering belief in the importance of community.

With diverse housing styles to suit every taste, Mahogany’s award-winning builders are committed to building homes that reflect the character of this rare and picturesque community. Each builder offers designs that embrace the Mahogany architectural vision, each one marked by imagination and originality to create a collection of distinct, timeless homes featuring character-rich architecture.

Mahogany creates opportunities for residents to connect with nature, history and one another in a vibrant urban environment. In Mahogany, residents will spend long afternoons stretched out on the beach relaxing in the hot sun or strolling hand in hand along its sandy shore. Impromptu games of beach volleyball will arise, picnics will be shared, small boats will silently glide by and laughter will ring out all around.

Main Beach & Recreation Area

It is here, at the sprawling main beach located in the centre of Mahogany, where residents will spend their summer days lounging with a book, swimming, kayaking and canoeing. Designed with a four season lifestyle in mind, residents will enjoy opportunities to play hockey on the nearby outdoor rink in the winter, and beach volleyball on the sandy courts in warmer months. Year-round, families will gather at the nearby Central Clubhouse to relax, visit and enjoy a very special community amenity overlooking the water.

Mahogany’s spectacular 265-acre open space system weaves throughout the community and is one of its most distinctive features. Within the system, a network of large sports fields, smaller neighbourhood parks, wetlands and beach areas can all be easily accessed via a linking pathway, often after only walking a very short distance from home. Large or small, the generous number of parks and green spaces in Mahogany reflect Hopewell’s dedication to building exceptional communities for residents who desire a higher standard of living – with nature, fresh air and space to roam always close at hand.

This highlight of the community parks system features a ring of pathways and interpretive areas surrounding scenic naturalized wetlands, and is a destination for residents who wish to stroll, cycle or jog in a quiet, natural setting. Many species of birds and small animals will be attracted to the Mahogany Wetlands, making this the ideal place to spend a peaceful afternoon enjoying the beauty of nature close to home.

Nestled in the heart of the Mahogany Homesteads neighbourhood, this impressive amenity will provide lifelong learning opportunities for residents of all ages in a rural-like setting. Designed to honour the Ollerenshaw family, who lived upon and actively farmed a portion of the land that is now Mahogany, the Ranch will celebrate the land, its settlers and Mahogany’s remarkable agricultural history by adapting the existing farmstead for various uses and programs designed to provide a learning and hands-on experience for the residents of Mahogany.
